Winroute and MSN Messenger

Before I die, I'd like to get MSN Messenger 6.1 to work through
Winroute (note: Pro, not KWF 5.x). I've tried permitting port 1863
in both directions, telling MSNM that it should access through a proxy
server, telling it to use MSIE's settings, all to no avail.

Has any one done this successfully? I can't even login.

(previously posted to microsoft.public.windowsxp.messenger without a
successful resolution)

Why would you want to, however? MSN Messenger isn't secure enough, in my
opinion, to be trusted at work.

I wouldn't disagree. But this is on a home network, which I try not
to compromise, while not expecting to achieve enterprise-level
security.

Anyone?

MSN Messenger 6.1 on Win98SE through a separate Winroute 4.25 gateway
machine - no problem.
No port mapping required probably because MSN recognizes the client's IE
configuration that connects through the Winroute HTTP proxy and does the
same.

Yes, that's what I expected to find, although my OS is Win2K. But it
doesn't :-<
