This guy brought me his computer, said him and his buddy had put a lan card in it awhile back and now the computer is messed up.
Well I was like "Well what exactly is messed up?", and he said about three days ago he started hearing this noise like something was loose inside the case, and now the only thing that displays on the case is a bunch of vertical lines."
The case cover wasn't installed correctly, he didn't put the bottom edges into the slots so the case flaps kind hung out, but when I pulled the cover off I found this:
If you can't tell what that is, well then let me inform you. All the black dots are mice crap, and all the stains you see are, you guessed it, mice urine. The mice had been living in the computer, and one of them was messing with the board.
And the freakiest part is that this is an indoor computer. So what do you guys think, is this even worth messing with, or should I give this nasty piece of junk back to him for his own demise? I'm sure its a video card problem, but I'm not too willing to touch the board, heh.
Get some gloves on and see what you can do. I'd call him first though and see if he wants to bother. You might be able to make some money by selling him a new case.
Come on dude! Everybody knows you're suppose to get an all-season, all-terrain computer nowadays! If I ever had mice living in my computer case...well, lets just hope they get caught in one of my many fans! Mmmmm...mouse guts!

Well what I meant by indoor computer is that this was sitting next to his bed, not out in a workshop or warehouse...
Just think what would happen if a mouse somehow got caught in the power supply or heatsink; think the heat would slowly roast the mouse, or just help disperse the rotting scent?
I don't think that the heatsink would cause any damage. That looks like a Celeron or a PII. They aren't hot to the touch. They get warm but that could be why the mouse wanted to make a house out of the case in the first place.
You could clean it up. However, if it is only a Celeron or PII you have got to ask yourself...

After cleaning it out you might want to call yourself "Dirty."
