I have 2 computers that I am trying to network at my dad's house. I have set up many networks before but have never had a problem like this. Initially when I first up the network, everything worked fine. Then one week, I came over and there was this problem: one of the computers(A) would not allow the other(B) to access any of the files. I got a message saying that I may not have permission to access the resource. I would not even get a list of drives, just clicking on the icon for A would bring the error message. However, A can access all of the files on B. Another problem I have is that B cannot access the internet through A(dial up connection).
Computer A is a Windows2000 machine, and B is Windows XP. But the problem started when B was an older Windows2000 machine.
I have tried all the settings I can think of, but have not been able to solve this problem. Does anyone have any advice?
I encountered the similar problem. End up I reinstalled WinXP (a painful process) in order to get things right.
Calv, it's me. Finally my notebook (98) and desktop (xp) can communicate with each other. My notebook can also share the broadband internet connection on my desktop. I spent 2 days and nights to get it done. Never let me do it again.
