What is the best Cooler for Athlon 1400? I'm not talking about exotic water things stuff. Just a normal cooler that works with a fan (I think)?

the swiftech MC 462A is widely regarded as the best air cooler. period.

why?
cauz that sucker is MASSIVE
it weighs 560 grams without the fan.... an 80mm fan too, not a crap 60mm and has a solid copper base and aluminium rods, not fins.

course with all that weight u cant clip it on
its actually screwed onto the motherboard (you may have noticed 4 holes in your motherboard around the processor), and that requires removing the mobo from the pc completely.
costs a fortune too.
but it IS the best.
im thinkin of gettin one shorty :) summers here are HOT

Next one after the MC462A is the MCX370-0A. It's easier to install compared to the 462, which installs through the motherboard holes instead of the socket. My MC370-0A is keeping my 850 T-Bird at 42.0°C (measured using a Compunurse - idle, I guess). But, it's pretty hot right now. I think it's maybe 26-27°C. 2x80mm Sunon case fans going, too.

Alright, I've said enough I think...sorry...

Kernel32.dll error...aw, son of a....

either the swifty or the sk6 with a really good fan... the akasa silver mountains quite good also but rare in the states, totally silver plated

if in doubt blame microsoft...

hi!

yes, Im sure the Swift.. is the best one to reduce the heat, but I would like a cooler that also is as quite as possible. Does such thing really exist that can do the cooling enough good (I'm not a overclocker) and sound less then 37 dba?

Well, my Swifttech in the case with the Sanyo-Denki fan is sort of loud, but not near unbearable. Mind that you will have the case on, so a decibel rating is much reduced.

mmmm
ive heard the 462A with the pabst fan i think it is and it is Quiet! less noise than what my 4500rpm 60mm fan & fop32-1 puts out!

oooooooooooooh
*amazing brainwave!*

coolest idea!
you know how u can get 80mm to 60mm fan ducts/converters?
how about getting a 90mm to 80mm or even a 120mm to 80mm for the 462A???

you could have the hugest slow spining fan out!
besides which it would also look downright AWESOME

wonder if any exist...

I found a 60-->92mm adapter, which I'll probably stick on my ThermoEngine. I don't know if they go up to 120mm, though.

BTW, my full load temp is only around 45, with two case fans in my mid-tower and a ThermoEngine w/ Delta. Why am I the same as the guy with the Swifty, 3 case fans, and full-tower case?
Hmm...

<font color=green>I post so you don't have to!

well 3 casefans doesnt mean too much if there are cables in the way... or the vents are designed bad...

also maybe his core is older... or too much thermal paste? *shrugs*
also, the room temperature has a definate effect on the final mobo & cpu temp.
he could be running in a warm room

for me its very linear
18C room = 24 C mobo = 50C cpu
22C room = 29 C mobo = 54-55C cpu.

i still think a 120 to 80mm adaptor would be the beez kneez!

That and my house with no AC on (which it is usually at) hovers at around 82oF.

Full tower with only 2 Case Fans, 3 including PSU. This on a 1.4GHz Tbird.

I'd say that getting a reading of 104oF in a 82oF room is pretty damn good.

ACKS @ degrees F.
*thinks*
82 is 27-28 ish
and 102 is 39

yeah... i would say thats pretty darned good!
judging by how mine varies from 18 to 22 i figure my cpu temp would be at or above 60 once my room got to 28C! (fop32-1)

Sorry....U.S. = Screwed up. I have computer temps to Celsius, as that's what is found on every hardware site, but my house goes by Fahrenheit. Sorry for not converting, just was in a hurry.

Told ya this baby was good. =D

tizz ok.
got many american friends i can sorta do the conversions in my head... and yeah... it is a glorious HSF.

and also yes, the top cpu temp is VERY dependent on ambient air temp. its all about thermodynamics.

only wish the supplyer here in oz wasnt outta stock! *sniffles*
