What does an xbox gaming keyboard do?

Hello,
what does an xbox gaming keyboard do? my 8year old grandson wants one because he hates having to click in his name all the time when changing a game.

They have Xbox gaming keyboards? I just used a normal USB keyboard to send text based messages to my friends and while using MSN, Facebook and Youtube.

He may be talking about the chat pad. It plugs into the controller and gives him a mini keyboard to type out messages to friends or enter text into the game. Its much faster than using the on screen keyboard and moving the courser to each letter.
