I have bought a new AMD Thunderbird 1.4GHz. I use a Titan Majesty TTC-MT1AB twin cooler (suitable for AMD CPUs up to 1.7GHz according to Titan) to prevent overheating. But exactly that is happening. I have changed two CPUs so far so that i guess the problem is not CPU.
The "normal" temp. for my CPU is 66 degrees celsious but when i for example compress a audio cd to mp3 files the temp. goes up to 77 degrees celsious !!!
That's not normal or is it ?!?! And yes i use thermal paste.
Does anyone use this cooler and what is your experience?
Please advise
Hi
Not really heard of the cooler your using but i bought a cooler master that was quoted as suitable up to a 1.7 athlon as well. but when i had a look at cooler masters web site ( my cpu was also running hot ) the spec was for the new athlon whitch runs approx 30% cooler than the older athlons. The cpu will run hotter under load when its doing any work. Ive now bought taisol`s lattest model which has a copper insert in the base and it`s running fine, quite as well. The temp is about 57 deg. under load.
Hope this was of help-Richie
If temperature is giving you problems, then I suggest purchasing a new heatsink. Just because something is rated up to 1.7GHz, doesn't mean it'll keep it cool. Plus, the thermal compound that comes with it is probably not the best quality.
Where did you buy that heatsink, though? Most local retailers don't sell the higher quality ones. The temperatures you're saying is pretty high. I would suggest getting some thermal compound first, in case the transfer isn't good enough. Then, if that doesn't work, case fans might better your situation. <b>Then</b>, you should buy a new heatsink if all else fails. I have been using a Swiftech MC370-0A, then I bought a CoolerMaster rated up to 1.2GHz. The reason is because the Swiftech is rattling, so I'm gonna RMA it, and use the CoolerMaster as a backup for now. The CoolerMaster keeps my 850 at 44.7°C idle, getting as high as 56-57°C when I run the BurnIn utility <b>Toast</b>.
Also, if you're reading your temp from your motherboard's onboard sensor, it's usually incorrect. I bought a Compunurse thermistor from Nerdsbyte.com, and taped the sensor <b>next</b> to the CPU core. This way, I have an accurate temperature.
I've heard that the Thermal Take Volcano 6Cu is pretty decent, and not too loud. You can buy it at <A HREF="http://www.coolerguys.com/cpucool/duron.shtml" target="_new">Coolerguys.com</A> for about $10, plus it helps the Red Cross. If you really want good cooling, plus a great installation design, perhaps purchase the newer version - the <A HREF="http://www.bzboyz.com/store/product471.html" target="_new">Swiftech MCX370-0A</A>. That's what I'm planning to get real soon...
Thanks to everyone for your help.
I see that many do not know the cooler, so for all interested, the homepage is
www.titan-cd.com. If you're interested, the cooler was 30USD.
I have at least to a point solved a problem - i removed the original paste (that was thin like a tape) and bought a bottle of thermal paste (2USD) that lasts i would say for over a 100 (hundred) CPUs.
Now the temp. maximum (when i compress audio cd to mp3) is 68 degrees celsious, idle is about 55 degrees.
Not bad for such a cheap paste, but i'm still not satisfied with the temperature.
I'm thinking of getting a REAL cooler (freon based cooler).
Can anyone give me a hint where i could get a good one and not to expensive?
Thank you
I didn't see your cooler on the site. But they had a TTCm2ab with a fan rated at 20cfm?? Man you will never air cool a T-bird will only 20cfm. Get ahold of the New Alpha 8035 for $50 and your problems are solved. Alpha... made from the best stuff on earth.
<b>"These are my thoughts, your mileage may vary."
If you are looking for a quality HSF then look into...
1. Kanie Hedgehog or its bigger brother the Hedgehog W. Verrrry cool machine. (However as with any cooling senario you have to keep the case cool or you will be circulating hot air. Not a good idea.)
http://www.est.hi-ho.ne.jp/kanie/e [...] socket.htm
2. Alpha's PAL 8045 with a good fan... like a Delta (warning...it will be loud and keep small animals and fingers away from fan blades. Also make julian fries..)
http://www.micforg.co.jp/c_pal8045e.html
There are enough sites that sell these HFS combos...
Good luck.
For keeping your case cool.... try some of these ideas...
