If there is a hotfix from Microsoft: Verify that it cannot be installed
over SP2. If it cannot, go to Add Remove programs in Control Panel and
remove SP2. Apply the hotfix. Reinstall SP2.

You might have to reinstall programs if they were installed after SP2
was installed.

Let us know.

Hi,

Try this way:

Disconnect the printer and all other USB devices from the USB hubs.
Use a PS/2 mouse instead of a USB mouse at this time.
Go to add or remove program to remove all the printer drivers as well as its
softwares, if any. Go to control panel and click the printer & fax icon,
delete the HP printer icon, if any.
Go to device manager and click the Universal serial bus controller, right
click on the PCI to USB Open Host controller and then click uninstall (Note:
if your printer use USB 2.0, uninstall the PCI to USB enhanced Host
controller instead of the Open Host controller)
Now, click Start/Run/ and type MSCONFIG, disable the antivirus software
under the startup tab so that the antivirus will not run at the background.
Reboot the PC, windows should found new hardwares and install the USB
drivers. Go to device manager to check and ensure the USB drivers are
properly installed.
After the reboot and ensure the antivirus is not running at the background,
connect the printer to the USB hub. (Note: MUST NOT power on the printer at
this moment)
Insert the printer driver disk and install the printer drivers. Do not
disturb unless you are prompted to. When you are prompted to power on the
printer, do so.
After the printer drivers is successfully installed, run MSCONFIG again to
restart the antivirus softwares. Reboot the machine and then test the
printer/scanner features.

Note: Download and install the latest XP drivers for your HP printer if it
is available at HP website. You may also update the USB1.1 and USB2.0 drivers
from the windows update site (recommended update column) or go to
http://support.microsoft.com/defau [...] US;Q822603

Hope it helps.
