ok..cool...just wanted to clear that up..
if it was tho, what would it say?
because i am pretty sure that the athlon4 is the palomino, and it would say palomino right?

Athlon4 is a model of Thundirbird core with 0.18 micron process. AthlonMP has the palomino core, so has AhlonXP.

No, current Palominos are still 0.18u

AMD probabely wont be going 0.15u, VIA has its C3 fabricated with 0.15u process. Next AMD processor will be 0.13u Thoroughbred, which may be with a year from now.

P4 has already gone 0.13u with Northwood!

OFF TOPIC.

Errrhmm.

Here's another one.

Live, Learn, Buy a box of LEGO, then build your own SpaceShuttle....

(Or do you really own a complete set of factorys? AMD & nVidia?)

Just kidding...

thats a good idea!

a lego set that has a toy motherboard, a toy processor, toy cards, a toy monitor, a toy toolset that would let kids build a toy computer!

get a piece of old hardware from any junk shop and you have it!!!

it doesnt need to work anyway!

i wish i owned a set of factories...that would be sweet..then i could really build my OWN computer...but right now, i have to settle for building my own computer from parts that are made by others...you know...msi, ecs, amd, diamond, linksys.....
oh well, someday, maybe...
and that would be a cool toy..."hey kids, be just like your it dad! build computers, and maintain them too!! comes complete with complaining users, and automatic corruption of the os!"
it would be just like real life! but you could get mad, and smash the thing, because it is legos, and you would just have to rebuild it!
and as for the space shuttle, that would be sweet too, but unless they figured out how to make them airtight, you might run into a problem with the vacuum of space...
and i found out that the athlon xp is reported as model 6 in cpuid...and in the current version of cpuid, it isnt recognized as xp, it is reported as an athlon mp...with palomino core...
too bad that they didnt make the core .15u for the palomino...
oh well...
and any idea if i will have to buy a new mobo when they come out with that new amd? or will it use the socket a?

I guess 462 pin socket A will stay for a long time. Next core Thoroughbred (0.13u) and then the Barton (0.13u SOI) will use the same socket. They will just need lesser voltages so older socket A boards might not support their rated voltages, but the processors would happily run at higher voltages.

The EV6 bus used by AMD processors already uses differencial clocking so they wont need to change the socket like intel did for Tualatin. It seems the socket A was designed with a pretty long term plan!

Get the best one today even if it makes a hole in your pocket. It will last long. Good there isnt any RDRAM board for Athlon!

yeah, i am glad that they designed the socket a for long term...
it is kinda sad how intel made their sockets so different..
there is the big p4, and the little p4..
people who want to go >2 ghz have to buy a completely new motherboard!
that sucks..
and with amd getting close to the 2 ghz line....things are only getting better!
