CPU Coolers: Performance vs. Price

Since I am new to this thread, I thought I would offer a thought for discussion. Why is it that people will spend a lot of $$ building a new state of the art system, then skimp the CPU HSF?

I'm a seller of performance CPU coolers,( http://home.sprynet.com/~mylar/ ), and can't believe what people tell me all the time. "You have an excellent product, but I would never spend $29 on a cooler." And to think, GlacialTech wants me to sell these for $44.99!

Anyway, are you like me and willing to spend the $$ for a high performance cooler, or are you like the many cheap bastards out there that will spend a ton of $$ for the latest CPU, only to attach an 'el cheapo' cooler to it?

This ought to be interesting :)

One of the problems is that where I live, computer stores only sell average coolers. There are certain advantages to buying your whole rig at the same store, and while I wouldn't mind forking out 50 euros for a good cooler, if the story sells only average coolers, I won't take the time to specially order one from a webstore. So in my case, the problem was availability and not pricing.

I wouldn't expect someone who is in the business of selling cpu coolers to acknowledge that it doesn't take a $50 cooler to be effective.

Gee, I've been looking for someone who will call me a dumbazz so I can give them my money!

Good Luck with that!

Valen,

Good point, didn't think of it that way. I've got the luxury of living in the US and using Pricewatch.com. I buy from several different vendors to piece together a system. I am brand loyal on some items, and will NOT use anything else. If one place doesn't have what I am looking for, I will purchase it some place else.

Take Care,

funkdog,

Thanks...I think. I take your comment as a compliment. I think if others knew that there are afforable aftermarket HSF solutions available that they would be more willing to spend the $30+ on one. I think $50 is a bit much myself. Hell, I think the ones that go for $100+ are a waste.

Take Care,

I stand corrected

It really was intended in fun. I cheerfully popped for an Alpha 8045!

don't worry, you're right

high cpu must have high cooling fan but you're cheaper
face off majority sellers

what are the specs & the efficiency of your HSF ?
