I have a TB 1.33GHZ with a dragon orb 3 on it and 2 80x80 case fans. The idle temp is about 50C on asus pc probe and under load it doesn't exceed 55C. The problem is the noise, it's just too much. I'm thinking of buying a volcano 2 hsf that i've found. Do you think it's sufficient for my cpu? I don't plan to overclock it and i don't want my cpu to live for 5 years, i just want my pc to run smooth, the cpu will be changed in about a year or so... I just want to reduce the noise as much as possible. am i going to notice a difference about the noise? is this hsf sufficient for cooling? i don't want to burn it! I need answers as soon as possible and plz, don't recommend another hsf because i can't find another one. Just answer me. Thanks in advance

volcano 7 when it comes out...80mm fan that adjusts to heat....=QUIET...
i have never used a dragon orb, but it has a 7000 rpm fan on it right?
get the volcano 6cu, works better than the volcano2, and is only like 13 bucks..
just dont get the cu+, or you will be stuck with another noise maker!

I agree with the Volcano 6cu recommendation.

I also recommend the Evercool ND-8 which is even cheaper at $10. It has a medium noise level with it's 5500 RPM fan. Don't scoff at the cheap price. Review link below.

Picked mine up at www.nexfan.com, a great company with a perfect 7 rating at www.resellerratings.com, I might add.

The volcano 2 will be sufficient for you since you plan not to overclock, and the stock fan on the 2 is alot quieter than the Dragon.

So yes, if you want a quieter cooler that will be adequate for your T-bird, then the Volcano 2 fills that bill.

too bad, and sorry for the mix-up...
i hope that the v2 works good, and that it doesnt give you many problems...
let us know how it works for you!
and maybe sometime in the near future, you will be able to get your hands on a v6cu, or a v7!
good luck, and have fun!b

One last question... Does v6cu produce more noise than v2 or v2 is more quiet? I'll do some last research in order to find v6cu, hope i'll find it.
Thanks for helping me.

not sure if it is quieter....it is about half as loud as the cu+
or less..not sure, but i can fall asleep with mine on, and the case off, as opposed to my friends, which i CANNOT STAND EVEN WHEN THE CASE IF ON!!!!!!!!!
his is too friggin loud....
and the cooling difference between the v2 and the 6cu, are pretty big...and the one between the cu and the cu+ are not that big, despite the double speed fan...
so yeah, try and find the cu, and if you cant, then i think that the v2 will be fine for your uses...
just dont do much overclocking...hehe

Would you guys use a Volcano 6CU on an AMD 1900+ processor with a Soyo Dragon Plus motherboard running on Micron PC2100 256MB RAM? I just bought a case with a fan on top of the case, yes a fan on top, one on a side and one in the back. There are little holes on both sides of the case for air ventilation. What's your opinion about the case? Also, would you lap the HS prior to installation and why? Can I just install the HS with compound straight to the CPU? Any recommended compound? I'm not overclocking this PC.
