If money were no object what system would you choose?

Choose a System]
Being money is no matter, what would you choose? I'm going with the dual 1 gig, Win2k would just love that!

Need More Ram

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice.
In practice, there is.

Its RDram.....bigger chips more latancy, or so i remember have to check back on the article. But more then 256 isnt really neccessary on a single chip system or with out win2k or NT. Well maybe run 4x128 for 512, still i think the smaller the individual chips the better, even if there are more.

Oh, I'd get a few of the Tbird 1.2gig 266 MHZ fsb and set them up in a beowulf cluster. Sell my setup's processing time to 3D movie artists/scientists etc. Sweet :^)

Really love your peaches wanna shake your tree.

If I got a personal system though, it'd be the 1.2 Tbird o/c to whatever I could get it up to (1466?). Then I'd have to add a huge plasmavision screen and a $25000 speaker system from legacyaudio :^)

I'd get a sun ULTRASPARC III (the latest i think...)

sit around and stare at it all day long :)

how bout deep thought , or deep blue (remember the ibm chess computers?)

then i could have a good game of chess.

or maybe one of the old cray vector supercomputers...

that would be fun too...

I wish I had a signature.
Edited by jojo on 03/22/01 10:26 PM.

1024 node Beowulf
each node being:
8x 3Ghz AMD Sledgehammer
1 GB 333Mhz DDR Quad interleaved (a la Serverworks)
4x 36 GB 15Krpm seagate Ultra320 SCSI RAID 1,0
Fibre-optic network

If money's no object, the only thing to consider
is the size of the spare room

I was trying to keep this to technology that already was or would soon be at to market. 3gig Sledgehammer's and Ultra 320 SCSI are not.

Cray makes one of the most powerfull supercomputers in the world on metter how many seti has You just can add Cray More Cpu Modules and kick everybody, hmm kinda' think of it
I'd preffer ASCI White, the most powerfull computer in the world.

PS: There is a Linux version of quake and those systems running on UNIXEs or its kernel atleast so i think its possible.
