THIS IS A GUIDE TO INSTALLING SOCKET A CPUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http:// http://www.m6.hwgn.net/guides/install_heatsinks.shtml
i wonder if the guy knows that putting arctic silver ALL over the cpu is not a good idea!
look at the 4th picture...AS ALLLLLLLLL OVER EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!
never tried it, but i am pretty sure that that shorts ALL the l1 bridges, and resistors, and EVERYTHING ELSE that is on the surface of the chip...
kinda funny...
kinda scary....especially if people are trying to use this...

wow! Apply it with your finger? That's crazy. You'll get grease on it from your oily fingers. It'll act as an insulator.

Hmmm, i actually seen it before.......
In the video on THG showing the P4/Athlon CPU burn.
Try looking at the TBird in the end.... Covered with paste like the above...

Now - what a great idea posting useful information to newbies on how to install a chip. Unfortunate that the guy is completely 'kin clueless himself and needs a lawsuit to keep him from molesting any more computers.

anyone wanna tell him he's lost it?

How about this highly informative idiot's guide to adding a case handle:

1. Take out top cover of your case. If your case have one piece cover, take them out.

2. Mark the hole. It's up to you if you want to put the handle in the middle or anywhere..

3. Drill the holes

4. Put the handle(s) and screw them down.

5. Put back anything you have taken out before..

6. Make sure the handle is strong enough

Okay - so that tought me a lot.

Well, the guy says that it worked. So either A) it really didn't have an effect on operation except that all that goo will probably raise his temps about 5 C or B) it didn't work and he is purposly steering people in the wrong direction. I do have a question though. . . Is it possible to short out your L1 or L2 cache and not know it? I wouldn't think so. Can a CPU be damaged yet operational?

The heatsink/fan fell off my head and now my brain is fried

e-mailed him......and let him know what was wrong with his guide, and how some people who followed his guide might be sending him their dead cpus for replacement...since using as2 isnt covered by the warranty....WHAT A DUMBA$$!!!!!!!!!!!
i cant believe he even wrote that guide......
and as far as the cpu being damaged, but still working, i dont think that is very possible, but it may happen once in a blue moon, and this guy might have been that one blue moon, and he thinks that is the way to do it...had he looked at the instructions on AS@'s website, he would have realized that YOU ARE ONLY SUPPOSED TO PUT IT ON THE CORE< AND NOT SPREAD WITH FINGER!!!!!!!!!
what a dumba$$...
and as for my links not working, i dont know why it is doing that....when i click it, it puts a in there.........
not sure why...
same thing was happening on my friends comp when he clicked any link..........
hmm..have to figure this out...

I contacted a tech (or whatever you call them there) at the makers of Arctic silver II and told him about your post. He just laughed and thought I was joking.

For all the invisible people reading this, there web site has directions on how to properly apply ASII.

lol...
this is totally ridiculous....that site should be shut down just for the ammount of damage it can cause...
as all over the place...
he said to put just a little bit.....BUT IN THE PICTURE, HE SHOWS THERE BEING A WHOLE BUNCH!!!!!WHAT A DICK!
next time he updates the site, he is going to say to put as2 all over the inside and outside of your case...just completely immerse it all in as2....fill the damn case with it....oh yeah...you will drop your temps a lot....nothing will work...so nothing will be generating heat!
lol
whut a dumba$$.........

AS is supposed to be non conductive. But at high pressure (heh; maybe 2atma), and possibly high temps, it changes properties.

It might be the poor kid just didn't know to clean the die off with some isopropyl.

Rich is the nation that has many war heroes. Long since forgotten...

well, on their site, they said that it is mostly non-conductive, but you are still supposed to keep it off of things like pins, and other things related to the workings of the cpu..........
it is just a better idea to only put it on the die.
even if it doesnt cause problems, then when you decide to change heatsinks, or something, then you will have a harder time cleaning the cpu than if you had just put it on the core......
but hey, if it floats your boat, go ahead and cover the cpu with the stuff, but dont go and tell everyone that that is how you install a socket a cpu.................not cool.

Wonder how many people followed his guide and made "Artic Silver cpu jewelry", before they took your advice??

Remember. You get what you pay for. All advice here is free.

lol...i dunno...but the guy who e-mailed me back is pretty cool about it...even tho my first e-mail was kinda harsh...i was totally raggin' their guide.
and yeah, i wonder how many people had problems.
and what i am thinking is that the reason some people put the stuff all over the cpu is because they give you a 3gram tube, which is enough for a whole bunch of cpu and other applications.
i mean, the ammount that you need for one cpu/hsf is like the size of half a grain of rice!!!!!!
that is not much!

and OMG!!!!!!!!i just saw another dell commercial! time to rant on that thread....

Dang, that's pretty cool that they updated their article. If they kept it the way it was after you emailed them, who knows how bad their credibility would be...

i know i would stop going to the site..
i did for a while...because i thought that was pretty dumb..
but then i said, hey, why not, and checked them out again.
and lo-and-behold,, they updated it...so i e-mailed them, and thanked them for doing that.
i really have to say that they sure turned their site around...
i am going to scour their site, and see if there is anything else that doesnt quite add up.
seeing as how they actually change due to reader input.
