Yeah that acronym in rap and hip-hop. Acronym Finder has 131 freakin' hits for MC, one of them being...gulp... Mariah Carey lol. I can't look through all this if I ain't got no idea.

I always thought it was slang for "emcee;" which means Master of Ceremonies, but I'm not sure about that.

You are correct. A master of ceremonies gives speeches and directs the audience. Early rap (rhapsodies) was telling a story much like a speech. When rap became more of a music style and with the addition of scratch records the term DJ (disc jockey), became more common. Today, rap is quite often directed to specific audiences and is only supposed to be fully understood by that audience. Such lyrics are sometimes reffered to as cypher.

well i was MC for this thing at school

and i BOMBED man!!!!! i really sucked.
