I've got an Athlon 1.4 GHz. that runs at 54 C. under load with UD Cancer Research. I use a Volcano 6Cu HSF that I like because it's not very loud... but I feel 54 is kinda high. The crime is I can make close to 1.6 GHz. with this chip if I want to tolerate the vacuum cleaner noise of a 7k fan... (yuk)

So I'm thinking about Coolerguys with an 80mm fan adapter... but doesn't that big cone and fan cantilevered off the CPU put a lot of stress on those little plastic clips on the CPU socket? I'd hate to have one crack and torch my "flammable" Athlon ;-)

The way to do it 'safely' is to use a slower 80mm fan on an 80mm heatsink. I got a Swiftech 462 and mounted a hi-flo 80mm case fan to it in place of the usual 80mm delta. noise is down from 48dB to 38dB. Still keeps my 1.33@1.5 at a snug 45 degrees max.
