I have a Titan TTC-D5TB (80 mm, aluminium, 3400 rpm) but my Athlon 1200@1333 (default voltage) is toping around 55C-56C.
I'm disapointed to say ther least...I don't know, is this cooler a bad performer or did I screw something when I mounted
the heatsink?
I put Arctic Silver(came with the Titan HSF) and my case airflow is OK.
I could go an buy a Dragon Orb 3 A1135 (cooper based, 7000 rpm).
This are the only options I have, I couldn't find anything better.

Help me decide and check two links coresponding with the two "beasts":

http://www.titan-cd.com/report/pcstats.htm
http://www.thermaltake.com/D3.htm

And if anybody actualy has one of the two, please answer!
Thank you.

Sounds like your HSF isn't performing very well. Look <A HREF="http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/01q1/010306/index.html" target="_new"> here </A> for reviews and links to different HSF's.

Good Luck!

Thanks for answer, but there really are only two options: the Titan - I already have this or the Dragon Orb. That's it for Bucharest. Money is an issue for me(unfortunaly), 20$ (the cost of the Orb)represent more than 1/4 my monthly pay...

Well, DON"T get an Orb. They have a reputation for destroying CPU sockets and crushing cores. Can you purchase on-line? <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/index.asp" target="_new"> Newegg </A> has a good reputation for reliability. Don't know if they send to Bucharest though. Still, should be some on-line house that can, I would think.

You could always try removing the side cover and running it that way. Just as an aside, what do you have for case fans? It would help if you had 1 intake fan and 1 exhaust fan.

It is possibly to get better performance out of a heatsink by lapping it. or polishing the bottom of it. A polished bottom gives lots more surface contact with the core.
On a very flat surface such is glass ,mirror. large piece of metal etc....Start with 400 or 600 grit sandpaper or emory cloth. Use a small amount af water while sanding. Now switch to 800 or 1000 grit paper or cloth an do it again .
It should now start looking kind of shiney(?) or reflective on the bottom. You can further polish it with 1600 or 1800 grit paper or cloth with water or use regular printer paper dry no water. Now apply artic silver and reset h/s.
This will drop temperature 1 to 3 degrees celsius or more depending how smooth the bottom of the h/s is to begin with. Ald when we say 1 fan in and 1 fan out this does not include the power supply fan .With it you have 1 in, 2 out.

I aint signing nothing!!!<P ID="edit"><FONT SIZE=-1><EM>Edited by rick_criswell on 11/29/01 08:07 PM.</EM></FONT></P>

That CPU and HSF were at my friend first...He oced 1200@1300 same temps as mine...I have 3 80 mm fans (not including the CPU and PSU fans), 1 PCI exhaust fan and one 5" slot fan (intake). Case temp= max28C. Ambient temp=24C
