I bought a Gigabyte GF2 MX400 (<A HREF="http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/products/agp_index.htm" target="_new">GV-GF1280RT-64)</A> not long ago and found that CoolBits can not be used on it.
Since I heard that Nvidia removed the CoolBits funtions started from driver version 6.50, I did not surprise with it.
I have a Elsa Gladiac GTS(GF2 GTS) too, and using dirver version 21.81 downloaded from Elsa website, it can be clock flawlessly using CoolBits. Thus, I thought that it's bacause Elsa enable the CoolBits in their drivers; and I went ahead flashing the the Gigabyte MX400 with Elsa Gladiac 511 BIOS v3.11.01.30.83, after successfully flashed and installed driver v21.81(from Elsa), I tried to overclock as usual with CoolBits, but failled!
Later, when I exchange the MX400 with Hecules 3d Prophet II MX with a friend whom do not intend to overclock, I found that the Prophet II MX works with CoolBits too(driver v21.81).
So, There's two possible conclusion:
(1)Nvidia does not like overclockers to tweak their economy class 3d chips.
(2)Nvidia want to make we overclockers' live difficult, so they try to disable overclocking with their future product.
If the second conclusion is true, that means they are doing what Intel did (and doing).
Anyone has newer than GF2 MX400 video card? Can you overclock it with CoolBits?
