Hi,
I will be using this motherboard for sure but I'm still not sure about which cpu to buy. T-bird 1.4G or XP series. Is it possible to overclock these cpus with this type of mainboard? If true, is T-bird better or xp?

XP.
Yes it is possible to overclock using an Overclocking Bios or overclocking software like CPUCool and SoftFSB.

Yep. XP is better. It uses less power for a start.

I've done a K7S5A with an XP1600, and have had no probs.

first off, i second the xp1600 on the k7s5a, my friend put an xp 1600 in his like a month ago...and it is runnint with no problems.
second..
to overclock on this board, you can do any of the following two things...
1. Download the overclockers bios, which i think you can get at ocworkbench, but i am not sure on that.
2. Download SoftFSB, and up the fsb. this seems to be the preferred way...considering its ease, and less risk involved...
and seems to yield a good overclock.
so yeah, put an xp in there, and either get the OC bios, and unlock the cpu, or get soft fsb, and up the fsb...
but definately get the xp, since it is a higher performance, with less heat, and less power consumption, and about the smae price....a little more, but for what you are getting, it is worth the few extra bucks!

I'm not sure about the prices where you're at, but I can get an XP1600 (1400MHz) for £10 less than an Athlon 1400MHz.

So even the price is (or will be for all) lower, and therefore worth it.

Like HonestJohn said, the Overclocker's Bios allows you to up the FSB to 145?--i think even higher, maybe 155.

166 with the overclockers bios. I stopped at ~147 or whatever setting it had. There are only about 7 settings in the bios.

Just a note to "onthetopo":
If you are thinking of unlocking the XP, there have been loads of people messing it up and damaging their CPU's. So if you are going to have a go read up on it first and make sure you have all the tools ready, non-conductive glue and decent silver lacure.

However the XP is the CPU to go for- its cheaper and faster...
