I wanting to put more fans around my system, but not wanting to go throug the motherboard. I have a old 486power supply sitting around getting dusty, can I use that to power some extra fans? If so how would I connect them to the wierd 4 prong outlets coming out of the power supply?

*note* I am not that good with electronics on a scale from 1 to 10 how hard would it be

If they're both ATX PSUs then you can wire them together like <A HREF="http://www.burningissues.net/how_to/power/psu.htm" target="_new">this.</A>

If its an AT connector (two connectors), then I'd look for a new PSU.

just two wires is necessary. (generally red and black)
this two wires give you the power.

you can plug simple fans on it. (eg hd fans, extension fans for case box, gc fans, chipset fans, ...)

you can use this "old dusty" psu apart your system.

if you know you don't know, the way could be more easy.
