I need a new AMD processer for a system i'm building. the mobo i choose is a K7V266-E ASUS. I'm not at all familier with how an AMD processer handles heat(or not handle very well as the case may be.) i come from a pure intel (or inthell) background so heat problems are new to me. Now for my question, what heatsink\fan are people using? I plan on buying a 1.4 ghz AMD and a reasonably priced hs/fan(30-50$). please help ps: has the antic SX1030 been a good case to buy?

Unless you plan on overclocking, the stock HSF is more than adequate. Don't expect stellar cooling preformance, but it will work and without dangers to your system. As for your case, that is about the best case money can buy.

 Have you ever tried cooking an egg on your HSF? Tasty.

Thankyou for the reply. Im not looking for steller performance ,and I know I can get decent protection from the bundled hardware,However Id like a little more peace of mind. Is there a company that seems to have an edge on the others? Is Artic Silver the best greese?

Earl,Hou'd you get that harly up on that dive board?

Arctic Alumina, by the makers of Arctic Silver, is a slightly better product due to it's lack of silicone. Regarding your query about reputable HSF (Heat-Sink/Fan) manufacturers, Thermaltake, Swifttech, and Alpha all make some excellent coolers. The best HSF on the market right now is most likely the Swifttech MCX-462, but that will cost you an arm and a leg. If your looking for above average cooling but at a cost that won't bankrupt you, go for the Volcano 7 by Thermaltake.

 Have you ever tried cooking an egg on your HSF? Tasty.
