Hey, I just bought Portal 2 during the Steam Summer Sale. Every time I try to play the game will load into the main menu. Once the loading screen comes up to start a new game, my screen goes black and windows restarts. Every once in awhile I will try it and a blue screen will come up. I have already tried re installing the game on steam and I have tried to validate the game cache but neither worked

Processor: AMD FX-6100 six core
Motherboard: gigabyte GA-970A-D3
Video Card: HIS Radeon HD 6790

Edit: Other games like L4D2 work fine. The only game I have this problem with is Portal 2.

Internal hardware malfunction of some sort would be my guess. DON'T take my word for it, though. Take the cover off of your PC and see if you can see any physical damage and go from there.

get bluescreen viewer so you can read the bsod log.
also writing down the error on the bsod will help.
you want the 0x00000000 and error text. just the first number b4 the brackets is normally enough as you can pair the 0x00 number with the error text on google to find it on the microsoft knowledge base. which will help pin point the error.
i have heard of portal 2 doing this but on systems that have unsuported hardware like an 8400gs gts210 and 220 or a driver fail.
so what is the error and what are your specs.

The bluescreen said "A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval." And the thing was 0x00000101
