Is the hs/fan that comes with the retail XP processors any good? Who makes it?

I won't be overclocking, so I'm assuming the retail hs/fan will be OK.

Thanks.

That's like asking if the tires that are included in a brand new car any good!

Sometimes the tires that come with a car aren't really that good. They'll do the job, but you can replace them with something better.

I actually answered my own question. I tried the retail HSF, and then tried a volcano 6cu. The volcano 6cu is about 5-6 degrees C cooler under full load, and about 8-10 degrees cooler idle.

The HSF that comes with the retail Athlon is sufficient (just barely) so long as you don't overclock. AMD doesn't release the name of it's supplier due to the fact that they can change suppliers quite frequently. I've heard rumors that Coolermaster is supplying them right now.
