I have a workstation running WinXPPro, SP2. This workstation is connected to
a D-Link router, which is connected to the Internet. The workstation has an
Espon printer connected to it via parallel port, which is shared. File and
print sharing is installed and enabled on the workstation.
Also have an HP laptop running WinXP Home, SP2. This laptop connects to a
D-Link wireless router, which is also connected to the router connected to
the Internet. (The first router creates a 192.0.x.x domain, while the
wireless router creates a 192.168.x.x domain.) Since my wife and I have
accounts on both computers with the same user name (i.e. Workstation\Pat -
Laptop\Pat; Workstation\Wife - Laptop\Wife), we are able to connect to and
use the Epson from the laptop just fine. However, I noticed that this only
works where the username-password are identical on both computers. I
discovered this because initially my wife's account on the workstation had a
different password than her account on the laptop, and she was not able to
print. Once I changed the password, she could print fine. Additionally, I
created a new account on the laptop that did not have a related account on
the workstation, and the new account is not able to print. I have gone
through all of the authentication scenarios for the printer and printer-web
service, and get the same result every time. What do I need to do to make
this work without requiring a matching user account on the workstation?
