How To Set Up Easy Print Driver Installations

Hi,

I have a bunch of Windows XP workstations *NOT* connected to any sort of
domain. We have three identical Lexmark printers and are setting each
printer up on each workstation. We are configuring 100 PCs and it's quite a
bit of work to set up all three on every workstation (essentially, 300 tasks
at 3 per workstation). Since all printers are identical, is there any way
that I can store the configurations centrally and then copy and paste them
to all 100 PCs? Failing that, is there some way to maybe do one on a PC and
then copy it out to the other two on the same PC (of course, I'd have to
change the IP address on the printer port, but that wouldn't be as big a
deal).

I'm just looking for some way to reduce the repetitive effort here. Any
suggestions on how I can do this?

TIA,

Dave

Well, with 100 PCs, I'd be inclined to use a print server and add the
printers as network printers on the PC (see
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/NetPrinterAllUsers.htm for one way to do
this).

If you have a File or other server, you should be able to use that as a
print server without much difficulty. The load from serving printers for
workstations is usually low to neglible.

You might find the printmig tool useful - see

It is perfectly useless to know the right answer to the wrong question.
