I bought hl2 2nd hand but I can't play it

I recently bought hl2 2nd hand off of Amazon but I need to activate it on steam. Unfortunately the serial number has all ready been used and so I cannot play it.

Is there anyway I can get a new serial number or activate it without using one? If not, do I have to send the game back?

I'd contact steam support and see what they say about it. They may be able to sell you a new activation key.

you could contact steam and explain your situation, although the chances of them giving you another code are slim.

You may have to buy the game on steam to get a new code.

other than that you might just have to send it back.
