I just got mines today I got the heatsink with a athlon 1700XP. I put it in a A7v133. the ambient tempertures for it are 43C cpu and 34 for the mb. I thought the temp for the mb would be lower but it's not. Does anyone think the temp too high or am I paranoid.

There's one thing I don't understand. Why is it that Swiftech MCX462 aren't getting significantly (if at all) better temps then people with other, cheaper coolers. I have a GlobalWin WBK38 and my temps are right around there, if not lower.

maybe if you tried it it would be cooler. others may not have much air circulation in their cases which might affect temps.

The cooling abilites of the Swifttech series shine much better when you crank up clockspeed/voltage/heat. The copper base on many fairly high end coolers keeps the core at close to the same temperature as more expensive ones, but once you start getting high heat outputs, the extra mass of the Swifttechs' shines through. For example, on a one GHz T-Bird, the Swifttech MC-462 and the SK-6 preform relatively equally, but at 1.4GHz the difference is much more pronounced.

what temps should i be looking at with this cooler and a 1900+ cpu?

my case is open and if necessary i have loads of case fans to stick in there.

I have the MCX-462 on an unlocked XP1800+ (1680MHz). At this moment, room=21ºc,mb=26ºc and cpu=37ºc. The
cpu never gets over 40ºc with toast running for 3 hours and I have the delta hooked through a rehostat
turned down to half speed for quiet operation.

See, those are decent temps for such an expensive cooler. But I see people with 40c+ on a Swiftech MCX462 when those numbers can be easily reached on cheaper coolers when you have good case air flow.

Case flow is very important!
Not over or under pressure but
as even an air flow as you can get.

Ahh, the dreaded double posts, I hate them! It's all because of THGC's slow server!

You'll have to take out your mb first to install it. and make sure the fan is blowing down on the heatsink. I put artic silver 3 on my heatsink so it can't hurt to put it.

Yes the Artic Silver is needed. It fills in the micro pores, scratches, etc. and allows
better heat transfer between the heatsink and cpu.

well i installed it and the 1900+ cpu. it seems that at browsing the net etc it runs at 32 and 38 while compressing to divx for an hour or so. is that good? i know that keeping under 50 is good, but is this good for THIS cooler?

It sounds great! What is your room temp? Ambient air will make a difference.

not sure. it is just a comfortable temp, although it is very cold outside right now in wales though, and at night it might get through more.

hmm, i left this on all night encoding a bunch of movies from vdub and xmpeg and the temp is 35c. i should have bought this cooler when i hit the 80c+ on my old tbird 1ghz
