Hi,
I have the following setup:

Asus A7V-266E
1900XP
2 256 Micron DDR Ram
GF3
Adaptec Ultra 160 card
SB Audigy
3com Nic
2 maxtor HDs (one 8 gig oldie & a 80 gig new one)
1 Ultra 160 Cheatah Scsi drive
1 scsi CDrom
1 scsi CDR
1 Nick lock
Many many fans
320 watt power supply

I to unlock the XP I used Silicone Grease as a gap filler & Defogger paint to connect the L1's. I "think" i did an OK job on it. Basically I followed this review (but used defogger instead of conductive grease):
http://www.vr-zone.com/guides/AMD/AthlonXPUnlock/

I thought I was unlocked but I am starting to not be too sure. I seem to be able to change the multiplyer from 12 to 12.5. CPUID says I am running at either 1600 or 1678.

I am not able to change to any other multiplyers. I tried 11 & 11.5 & 10 & 10.5 & nothing seems to work at that clock speed.

How can I only be able to post at either 12 or 12.5?

Did I mess something up?

Also. I was going at 12.5 & the FSB at 138. That should be 1737 (about). CPUID says it is running at that speed, the bios went from saying XP1900 at post to the actual MHZ.

3Dmark2001 says that the processor is 1.68 (at 12.5 x 38). It makes me wonder what the real speed is. Maybe thats why 3dmark keeps crashing? Or can it not recognize anything above a 1.68 processor?

The L1's look to be separated & the connections are pretty clear. I did have one that was connected & I took a pin to break the defogger paint to ensure they were not touching. Maybe there are a bit?

How can I be "partially" unlocked? I figured it was an all or nothing kinda thing.

The Vcore is at 1.85 & Basically I am finding that the most stable I can get is either

1600 x 141 (1692mhz) (locked)
1666 x 136 (1712) unlocked

My benchmarks seem to be a bit better at the "locked" clock speed. I am not getting what is causing the mess up.

My temps seem just fine as well.

Any help or ideas would be great.

Thanks,
Rich

Oh, I just found out that the CPU is defaulting to 8.5 as the multiplyer. I confirmed that the system is reading it at the correct mhz.

My working options are:

8.5 (comes up as 8.5)
9 (allows the change but comes up as 8)
9.5 (allows the change but comes up as 8.5)
10 (NO POST)
10.5 (NO POST)
11 (NO POST)
11.5 (NO POST)
12 (comes up as 12 - CPUID)
12.5 (comes up as 12 - CPUID)

I would say that something is messed up for sure! What could it be? Not unlocked properly?

I have the ASUS A7V266-E and an unlocked XP1800+. The answer is look on page
20 4), of the manual. Move the jumpers from Palomino 1-2 to Athlon/Duron 2-3.
You will then be able to raise your multiplier.

Also download the latest BIOS 1005 final for the board. Try the fsb at 133 before
moving it higher and set the vcore to 1.775v.

Oldbear,
I have the jumper set to 2-3. I am also able to raise the multiplyer from 12 to 12.5. I am using bios 1005 final. At 12.5 133 I am able to post just fine.

It seems at 12.5 138 I am able to run 3dmark to completion.
At 12 x141 I am able to run 3dmark to completion.

I am getting better benchmarks using 12x141 than 12.5x138. If I go any higher the PC becomes really unstable.

I cant find why I cant hit 141 at 12.5 but I can at 12.

Any ideas?

The voltage on the chip (Vcore?) is set at 1.85.

Ram is Micron 2100 DDR

The voltage on the ram is set at default:

2.65 (thats the IO voltage setting right?)
I could up that to 2.8 if needed.

Voltage could be it or we need a later BIOS from Asus.
Their is a beta 1006.005 you could download but it is
risky. They should have a final soon.

Hi,
I was unable to open the multiplier, but I'll tell you someting, I really think it is not worth it. I set the FSB to 152mhz, and since I have a Palomino 1700+ the multiplies is set to 11, so 11x152=1672 Vcore is set to 1.8 The sistem si perfectly stable and temps are of 41°C at full load. I think that i am not going to open the multiplier, since I saw that it is hard to go further with the speed. I have a mbo IWILL KK266PLUS.
