There is the 700 series and the 500 series. If you have a WG Firebox
1000 you have a nice unit. Why not get it fixed from a VAR? There isn't
much to them, it's just a hardened PC (like most appliances).

The 700 can be purchased for about $1600.

any cheap ol' junker you've got lying around, 2 nics, and any linux or
*bsd distro will do just fine.

i'm partial to gentoo myself (http://www.gentoo.org)
here are some other links:
http://www.freebsd.org
http://www.openbsd.org
http://www.debian.org
http://fedora.redhat.com

also, if you don't want to have to deal with setting up a working
linux or bsd installation, you can try one of the ready to go
modified distributions like smoothwall:
http://www.smoothwall.org/

it will do everything your firebox did, but is free (excluding the cost
of your cheap ol' junker computer with 2 nics)

Pretty good stuff on the cheap. SME530 runs about 350-400$
