Is there a fanless heatsink that works well with a AMD 1.2Ghz T-Bird on an A7v MB. I'm not looking for great temps but if it can keep it below 55C would be acceptable. anyway if anyone has any suggestions please Email me at rmeema2@hotmail.com. Thanks

Someone here (I think it was crashman) did a test and found that the fastest processor he could run with just a heatsink, no fan, was an Athlon 800. Your results may vary.

considering a lot of rigs run at that temp WITH a heatsink, I think you are being hopefull, unless of course you make your own "monster heatsink", in theory a HUGE heatsink should passively cool a cpu, I have 80 ltrs of water running through mine, and after a while the water actually heats up by a few degrees!

If they squeeze olives to get olive oil, how do they get baby oil?

I have been looking for one of these monster passive heatsinks but have been unable to find one. My SuperMicro case comes equiped with a rather large fan positioned of the processor; so if anyone knows where i can get an extremely large passive heatsink, preferably copper, please let me know.

Oh yeah, I'm running an Asus CUSL2 so I need one to fit a socket 370.

You might try here: http://www.aavidthermalloy.com

You can get extrusions from them by the foot. They should have something that could do the cooling work. I'm imagining the hardest part will be satisfying your mechanical space requirements. Some of the really low thermal resistance stuff is rather big.

I've actually been looking through their site a bit as I want to get something to mount a big custom amp to.

You might try <A HREF="http://www.zalman.co.kr/english/product/product.htm" target="_new">Zalman</A>, they have a Flower Heatsink [FHS] design. Which, based on an old <A HREF="http://www.ocworkbench.com/articles/Shoot/page10.htm" target="_new">OCWorkbench.com heatsink shootout</A>, will provide some decent performance for 1GHz+ processors.
