technical aspect of ringtone download

Hello,

Can someone tell me how ringtones reach a phone,
especially one which does not have Bluetooth?

I have a Kyocera KX414 and I am wondering how
I might use the Internet to transmit a ringtone
that I design myself to my phone.

Surely there must be a way, however Verizon
controls the cellular network so I suppose
they must be willing to send the data thru
their system for $0.

Back when I had AT&T, there was such a thing
as doing that for free and I obtained several
ringtones for no money.
