Electrical Wiring. Need Help and Opinions

First of all, what I'm trying to do is to put together an external watercooling system where the radiator/pump/reservoir are in a seperate case. Unfortunately, I can't use the power supply to power the pump and fan in this setup. My question is how do I wire this rig with an on/off switch that has only one AC power cord powering the system?

Correct me if I'm wrong, do I just get an extension cord and splice on a power switch in series, and then just run a splitter for the pump and fan(AC)? Or is there a better way to do this?

Also, how would I wire the AC fan (bare wire)? Do I have to use something like a terminal/fuse block?

System power supply to power the pump? Aren't they 110Volts pumps? You are confusing me, where is my safety pillow?

I found a pump/reservoir that can run off the 12v connector(<A HREF="http://www.cpufx.com" target="_new">http://www.cpufx.com</A>). But since it's going to be an external pump, I'll probably use an EHEIM 1250 or 1060 which is 110vAC.

ahh I see!

yeah EHEIM is a great brand for pumps, Fluval make decent pumps too. But not sure if they make pond pumps that you can use for your setup.

I hear that a lot of people are using either EHEIM or Danner pumps. EHEIM's are a lot harder to find but are supposidly better. Never heard of Fluval, I guess I should check them out.

Either way, the pump will be AC and I got to find a way to wire my setup.

pet stores sell the high gallon/minute jets using them in salt water aquariums to move the water around enough, those are not filters just pumps to give the water great movement imitating real sea/ocean water movement. to get pond pumps go to stores selling garden stuff, cost less than buying one from a computer store. also you can look them up on-line and see which stores carry their products, get to know the real g/m info (see parts in case they start wearing out)

<A HREF="http://www.petsmart.com/products/product_770.shtml" target="_new">http://www.petsmart.com</A> has some nice magnetic drive water pumps. I think I'll need a powerful pump that will has a max head of around 5-6' since the enclosure will be on the floor and computer is sitting on my desk. Heck, maybe I'll dig around the storage bin, my parents did have a freshwater aquarium.

Hi,

My watercooling setup is seperate also, details <A HREF="http://www.calvsplace.cwc.net" target="_new">here</A> I just leave the pump (Eheim) running 24/7 so dont have the same problem as you BUT I DO plan on wiring up a relay so that in the event of low water/flow rate it will power off the pc (or if the pc is off, not allow power on), its easy to wire up, all you need is a relay. <b>BUT</b> if the pump and the pc came on at the same time, there would be a delay until water was circulating through the block, I wouldnt have thought this would be a problem, but its worth being aware of.

If you're putting the cooling system in another case, you could use an old AT power supply in the second case with an AC output (nomally used for the monitor). Then get one of those cables that looks like a power cord extension cable and run it to the main case from the cooler case.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?
