Can't download Win 7 updates or do recovery on HP laptop.

I've been trying to download MS updates on my HP laptop but I keep getting an 8000FFF error code when I try to install them. I've got Advanced System Pro which I've used to clean the registry. I've ran complete scans using free editions of Avira Anti-Virus, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and Super Anti-Spyware. I tried to do a system recovery using the Advanced Boot Options method and got a "Windows cannot find a system image on this computer." I've got an HP so I tried using the recovery manager via the F11 method but the system recovery option wasn't available going that route. I've tried using HP's system recovery manager but using the regular method doesn't work either. I've tried using the recovery discs which I got from HP but I also had no luck when I tried to use them. I ran an HDD test using SMART to see if the problem has something to do with the HDDs but they checked out fine using both the short and long tests. It all started this month when MS did the major update. HELP!

Just a guess, but I have seen those codes identified on the Windows support website.
