What is a good quiet fan for a XP 2000+?

I have an Athlon XP 2000+ and a Dragon Orb 3. The Dragon orb is too noisy. I can hear it from the other room. I need a heatsink and fan that isn't so noisy but can keep the cpu cool. Any suggestions?

Get anything without a Delta Fan.

IMO, your best option would be to go with a Copper cooler and pop a 60-80mm fan adapter on there with a Panaflo 80mm fan. Panaflo seems to make quality fans that push good CFM at a low DBA.

Look at the Volcano 7, Volcano 7+ and the Volcano 6CU? Are you overclocking? If so then look at the Alpha PAL8045 plus a quiet, low RPM Sunon fan.

AMD Man,
The Volcano 7 runs at 2 fan speeds right? Is it noisy when running at the higher speed? My CPU temp is at 42 degrees right now, would the Volcano 7 run constantly at the higher speed?

I'm tired of a Delta fan as well.

I'm looking at the Evercool CUD-725 which has a quiet (32 dBA), 70 mm fan. I just wish it had a 6-tab clip.

Here are a few reviews.

I have a Volcano 7 but I can't tell you how loud it gets because mine is usually running rather slowly because I have good case air flow.

I'll give the Volcano 7 a try. I'll also put some more case fans in. Thanks.

Yeah I saw that one on Nexfan.com for like 16 bucks. It is a cool looking fan.

Well, I decided to go with the Evercool CUD-715 (slightly lower profile and only 38 CFM vs 42 CFM compare to the CUD-725). It seems to be about one degree warmer than my old HSF but it's sooooo much quieter than the Delta (though it's running at 4900 RPM instead of the spec'd 4500). My temps are 40 degrees at idle and peaking at 47 degrees running Toast. (I'll be doing a two hour test later). That's with a Tbird 1.0 @ 1.5 Ghz (150*10) and at 1.91 volt core.

My HSF is no longer the loudest fan in my case.

I've got some quiet case fans that are going in next after I complete my temperature tests with the CUD-715.

Thought you might be interested in this heatsink review.

I found it interesting that the Titan TTC-CU5T is identical to the Evercool CUD-715. It does quite well and is in good company. Not too shabby for a quiet(ish), $14 heatsink (the Evercool that is).

You could switch the fan on your current heatsink. You can use a grill and attach a larger fan with lower RPMs, higher CFM, and lower dBA's. Your Dragon Orb 3 has three screw hole that can hold down the grill. You can use 4 fan screws to hold the new fan to the grill. It is just a suggestion. There are a lot of fans that can do the job.
