Volcano 7 is pretty good...alittle BIG.. the Alpha has trouble Attaching to certain Mother Boards.

Yes, the Swiftech MCX-462 or Alpha PAL8045. The difference is negligible.

depends on your motherboard, if the alpha will fit on your board i would go with it but if it doesnt i would try the Thermalright SK-6 (i have the SK-6 and it seems to be a good Heatsink)

The Swiftech MCX 462 is the BEST u can get for your XP

Reply to 10GHZ

I'd say the Swifty MCX 462, while my second choice would obviously be the Alpha.

The Alpha is .1C warmer than the Swiftech. Hence, they can be considered equal.

I too have the Swiftech MCX-462. It's a monster in size and extremely loud, but it keeps my OC'd XP at 40-43(depending on room temp). It's also quite costly but if overclocking I say go for the gold(well copper actually!!) The Alpha is also top notch. Either one you cant go wrong with, but realize that these are huge and depending on your mainboard, case and PSU placement it may or may not fit well.

which is quieter? the alpha?

They're heatsinks not fans. You can choose which fan you get.

Does the MCX-462 fit in an Abit K7G-RAID? I already bought the MCX, in preparation for buying a new comp, but I've recently changed my mind and I now want to get a K7G-RAID instead of the Dragon+ (compatibility issues). Can anyone assure me that my MCX will fit?

AMD_Man what are just Heatsinks and not fans... the Alpha and Swiftech ?

The 'premier' heat sinks come standard with fans, as in my case the swiftech came with a Delta fan. Most sites give you the option of swapping the factory fan for a different model(higher CFM, lower RPM, quieter DBA whatever). Or in many cases, the fan needs to be mounted after the heatsink is in place vs most cooler with attached fans. This means you can more or less put on whatever fan you care do to change it from stock. Hope this helps

Will the Alpha or Swiftech handle the new T-bread series.

the Xp2100 is 1.73ghz ? will the T-Bread be 2 ghz on there first release or 1.8, 1.9, then 2.0....i guess they will make more money if they do it that way

I honestly can't answer that question but my assumption is yes. Considering the fact that the new Thoroughbred core will be on an smaller .13 micron core that it'll use less power(as with the P4a's, around 1.5v, vs. the 1.75 XP's need on Palomino) but in turn will be hotter running because of the higher clock speeds. So in turn what you get is a lower temp because of a more efficient core, but higher temps due to the higher speeds. My best guestimation is that they'll run about the same temps as the current highest speed XP's with the two new variables balanced. This is also under the provision that "rumor" holds true that AMD will stay with the same socket A(462 pin) configuration. If my line of thought is accurate and holds true the 462 will be usable with the new T-bred's. Only time will tell(OEM's are reportedly receiving the new core near the end of this month)which means by mid-late summer we'll be able to go to our favorite suppliers and order them. I have no crystal ball, and I'm far from a expert on thermal conductivity, but I think you'll be fine for the near future.

i've heard people say the Alpha can't fit on the Soyo Boards... does the Swiftech, if so.. How loud is this thing....i know the Volcano 7 is HUGE, is it as loud as the swiftech... will the Volcano6u be good enough for the T-Bred

Rob, I think <A HREF="http://www.alphanovatech.com/mb_inf_pal8045e.html" target="_new">this</A> is what you've been looking for.

Dr.Thermal EXTREME. We had a dicussion a few weeks ago concerning it - search for Dr.Thermal EXTREME and you can't come up with too many hits. It is a bit loud - but it's the same 80mm fan that most often comes on the swiftech. It gets at least as good of temps and only cost about 40 bucks (you even get the original 70mm fan with it!) And it's very easy to install. I think that www.crazypc.com is still the only place to buy them. Just my two cents, but I have been very happy.

I'd recommend the Thermalright AX-7. It's cheaper than the Alpha or Swiftech, it has a nice three-prong clip instead of having to screw it to your motherboard, and it performs about the same. It comes without a fan, so you can buy whatever kind of fan you want. You can pick a loud, high-performance fan for it, or a quieter fan if you don't need maximum cooling. Try Plycon.com or KDComputers.com to find it.

Hey, how about Cooling for the T-Bred Processor's.....are you gonna need a Higher Performancing HSF....when you buy a HSF like the Alpha or Swiftech, it's only the HeatSink? and you have to buy a Fan for it also??

Some heatsinks come with a fan, some don't. The Thermalright ones don't so that you can choose the kind you want. I checked two sites that sell the Alpha and both let you choose the fan you want. You basically just have to make sure when you buy one that you check to see if it comes with a fan or not.

As far as the T-bred goes, it should run a little cooler than the Palomino, at least initially, since it's manufactured using a 0.13 micron process instead of 0.18. So a good HSF combo should still work with the T-bred.

so the Volcano6u, Volcano7, and Alpha should cool the T-Bred fine..

How would life be if there were no Computer's? That would Suck!!
