Hi folks - I have just trecently returned to EQ1 from EQ2 and have one
rather basic question (among many) but this one will suffice.

How does one activate these VeteranRewards? I've got them in my AA tabs
(last one on the right) but have no clue as to how to activate them or
transfer them to a hot key.

Assistance would be appreciated. thanks

And if they're already showing up in your AA tabs, meaning you've
already done the /veteran thing, you transfer them to a hot key by
pushing the hotkey button in the right hand side of your AA window
(underneath your AAXP bar, and the +/- buttons where you determine what
% of XP you are diverting to AAs...

More: for however many years worth of benefits you see you have been
awarded, you may enroll that many characters on that account to receive the
benefits. Do this the same way as the initial one: on the chat line type
/veteran

I entered the /veteran command and then examined the AA screen.
The hot key button was grayed out, and I wasn't able to train any of the
items.
Are the veteran items tied to signing up for a one-year subscription
extension (offered initially during the April 11 through May 11 time frame)?
Or do you just get the veteran benefits without the need to subscribe
for the year?
Thanks,
Steptoe

You need to sign up for the year subscription. I wasn't aware of the
cut off date. Oh well.

I dont get to play for hours at a time so these "use once a day"
abilities are really nice...betweeen the "max out your stats" ability
and the servant, i can get an hour of good solo time. I finally used
the once a week full rez ability last nite...died in dulak's harbor and
the group was breaking up.

You don't have to sign up for the year subscription. It only matters how
much time your account has been active. Signing up for the one year
subscription and paying for a year in advance right now assures that your
account will be active for another year and thus counts toward the number of
years active.

No you don't. I do not have that subscription, and I do have my veteran
rewards working just fine.

Steptoe, did you select one of the veteran rewards in the AA window? The
hot key button should ungrey when you have done so.

Ah! you have to be in the game! I was doing my email and kept typing
it over and over, and nothing happened... then I was on my homepage
and had the same result. I never occurred to me to try it <in the
game>.

I've learned never to assume the obvious, so I'll ask: when you entered
the /veteran command, what happened? Did you get a message saying "You
do not have any veteran rewards claims available"? If so, it means you
haven't been subscribed for a full year yet (and didn't sign up for the
recent year-in-advance offer, which adds a year to your subscription time
for the purposes of computing how many veteran rewards you get).

If you did not get such a message, you should have gotten a popup window
offering to activate veteran rewards on the current character. Did you
get that window, and did you click Yes in it? If so, you should have
gotten a bunch of messages listing the abilities being added to the toon.

If you got that far, then when you opened the AA screen, did you remember
to go to the Veterans tab in the AA window? Were there any abilities
listed there?

As mentioned above, the one-year sub just adds an extra vet reward to
your set, and apparently also lets you get the rewards on an extra toon.
E.g., if you've been subscribed for 3.5 years you'd normally get the
first three rewards on each of three characters. If you signed up for
the extra year, you'd get four rewards on four characters. (At first I
thought it was four rewards but still only three characters, but that
seems to have been a bug and they fixed it. My 1.5 years plus advance
sub got me two rewards on two characters.)

Those of us with experience in tech support know better than to
assume any intelligence on the part of the user. Heck, not only
do you have to be <in the game>, you also have to have your
computer turned on. And plugged in. (Unless you're running on
batteries, of course.)

Oh, and remember to press the <enter> key after typing /veteran.

As a customer with experience dealing with tech support, I know better

Of course "Mary" and "Rick" in an indian call centre talking broken
english reading out of a book of troubleshooting scripts are not
"technicians". :)

Unfortunately when you call "tech support" that is often who you are
dealing with, and sadly is all many companies even employ.

A good company has real techs available.

Of course, I don't begrudge them a buffer of flunkies to shield the
sanity of the real techs from the idiots with their non-functioning
unplugged printers, thier modems plugged into the network port, and
generally impaired knowledge of right and left, or where the Start Menu
usually hangs out...

All I ask from a good flunkie is that he recognize that I might know
more then him, take me through his book of "magic-troubleshooting-
scripts" as quickly as possible and escalate me to a real tech when its
done with a minimum of fuss.

In a perfect world, I'd want to skip the magic-scripts entirely, but if
I could skip them, so could the idiots, and there goes the sanity of the
techs I want to talk to, so I'm willing to jump hoops for a couple
minutes.

I asked my question from my work computer and it appears that my memory
wasn't very good. When I got home that night, the hot key button worked
just fine.

It may have been that I saw that the Train button was greyed out and
came to a too-hasty and incorrect conclusion.

I'm all set now. Thanks for all the comments.

If it was just a couple of minutes, I'd agree. Far too often, I end up
spending 15 to 20 minutes jumping through hoops, restarting the system,
etc, all so they can confirm what I already know, and told them at the
start.

Meanwhile between the time on hold and the jumping through hoops the
real problem *AT THEIR END* has been sorted out by their own back end
people and their front end flunkies think they've helped another client
by making you turn off your computer.

Sound familiar?

Heh... fortunately this sort of madness primarily only occurs with ISPs.

Fortunately, my ISP is one place where I do not run into this problem.
They are a small outfit running a wireless ISP for my area. They have
been extremely reliable, but when I have had issues, the tech support
person I talk to is also the same person who actually takes care of the
problems, not some flunky with a script.
