That jack is Nokia-specific so in order to use for example a Jabra
headset, you will need an adapter. The jack has three contacts:
incoming audio, microphone, and answer/hangup. The adapter should be
specific to the 3589i as labeled - I had terrible luck with adapters
labeled to include the 3589i with other, later, Nokia phones.

The 3589i (and, I suspect the 6015) was built to Verizon specifications
and, as such, uses the industry-standard 2.5mm headset pinout.

No, it does not, at least on the two Vz-labeled Nokia 3589i phones I
used until recently.

I don't doubt your experience - perhaps they changed it in later
production. However, generic 2.5mm headsets work fine on my wife's 3589i,
and the manual supports this:
