I am looking for a good network monitoring software.

What I would like is:

Free please

allow ping of devices, snmp nice but not a must

email alerts on device down/up

web enabled would be great


not mrtg please, config is a pain and I don't think it has email.
cacti looked promising but never got it configured/installed
big sister never got installed

I know of nagios.
There is also OpenNMS http://www.opennms.org/ .It works reasonably well
though it does like to eat memory.
