newbie question: athlon 1700+ retail heatsink

okay so i've never made a computer before but its been quite awhile since i've gotten a new one so i boldly (or not so boldly) decided to upgrade my p2 450. i purchased a new case, athlon xp 1700+, and a asus A7A266. well i received my athlon xp and i took a look at the instructions. for the heatsink it says that i should remove the small tape at the bottom but instead of a tape i see this tan colored blob thing. what am i supposed to do? scrape it off?

no!if there is no tape u should use the heatsink as it is.U must carefully place that blob on to the cpu die!!

p.s.: it must be a sticky blob...if it is not then don't care what i've said!!

dont touch it either, you dont want to get any finger oil on it.

i went to the tomshardware forums and all i got was this lousy signature.
