Add Network Printer Hangs when Installing drivers

Hi, I'm trying to get my Laptop to access a printer on another computer,
which is totally set up correctly. However, when I go to the add printer,
network

printers, connect to specific printer and enter the \\server\printer it asks
me if it's okay to D/L the drivers and I say okay, then it just hangs and I
have

to restart the computer. It sounds like this KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=830732

This problem was at work with my laptop. When I brought my computer home to
my home network, I then couldn't access my other computer's printer through
our

home network, when I try and re add the printer now I get an error message
saying "Windows cannot connect to the printer The print spooler service is
not

running" or "operation could not be completed. Print spooler service is not
running". But on both machines I've double checked that the spooler service
is

ON and automatic.

This was a problem before and after I finally installed SP2 (yesterday in
hopes
it would fix it =/)

Then I ran the network setup wizard at home and I no longer got the print
spooler problem but I'm back to having the problem where the add network
printer

freezes at home as well. Sometimes when I try to access shared folders it
hangs as well.

Has anyone had any interaction with this problem or knowledge base article
solution?

I'm thinking of just trying a reinstall of XP from the CD while the computer
is on (not by restarting and booting from the CD).

Thanks!

What operating systems are the two PCs running?

Have you tried Bruce Sanderson's solution:

I hope you see this, the problem isn't with the computer with the printer,
it's with my laptop trying to connect to the printer. I've tried this on two
separate networks and I can't add the network printer, it just hangs.

Most recently, I've done a complete reformat of the computer, I put in the
OS disk, booted from it format c: and reinstalled everything and it STILL
doesn't work. I point it toward the correct network printer and eventually
the add printer wizard goes "Not responding"

I'm so clueless as to what to do next.

Here's a relook at that KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=830732

Please help,
MPG
