Many of us (…if not all) are coming up empty handed. DELL just replaced 9
computers (OPTIPLEX) because of this very issue.

- Printer Spooler and corresponding RPC services fail to load on startup.
- Printers and faxes are *all* unavailable.
- An abundance of errors regarding print spooler not started, etc.

Does anyone know for certain, and has anyone contacted MS on this issue?
Gosh…, we must have all accumulated 1000’s of wasted hours on images having
this very problem. Cheers -Michael

....and BTW. It's almost insulting to read that someone is detailing exactly
how to navigate to services (services.msc) in order to START the spooler
service and solve this issue. In our many years of experience we have never
seen the printer spooler fail to load until recently, yet this the first
place we went and failed. If a resolution is available it is way beyond
rudimentary steps in order to FIX.

most spooler failures are caused by faulting print drivers. Start there.

you can also search the Knowledge base if there is an error message
generated.

....these problems are the result of NEW machines with NO printers installed
with a NEWLY installed OS (Windows XP). Thanks for your reply but this could
not be any problem "caused by faulty print drivers".

Perhaps if the spooler is looking for a printer driver to hook to, and none
is present.
Maybe a nonexistant printer driver might be considered a faulty one from a
software detection standpoint. I can remember when we had to install the
generic printer driver or a generic postscript printer driver to make office
work properly without a "normal" printer & driver instralled.
