Hi Everyone!
My question for today is whether anyone knows what the cause of the following
problem might be.
It seems that when I start a new instance of MSIE, it will not connect to the
Internet. However, when I start MSIE by clicking on "More Info" on the ZAP
"Alerts & Logs" page, then it connects to the ZoneLabs site just fine. From
there, if I keep opening MSIE off of that instance (by using the open link in a
new window fiunction), I can connect forever.
What is going on? Why can't a fresh instance of MSIE connect?
Thanks for your input!
I use w98se, MSIE-6 and aol-8. ZAP is the only firewall installed.
Pent. 2 at 333 MHz.

Check the programs you have Xed out on ZAP's program tab.

Thanks for the good start, Duck.
Real Player and Windows Explorer pop up asking for permission to access the net
without my doing anything with them to begin with! So I X all the boxes for
them and continue. I do this because every time I try to delete them from the
list, they pop right back within five seconds or so!
WAOL.exe keeps asking, so I gave it the first question mark and the rest Xs.
MSIE gets two green checks and the rest Xs. ZoneLab Client keeps asking, so I
gave it all question marks.
Aside from that, there's a long list of components which I don't really know
what to do with! Almost half of them have green checks and the rest have
question marks.
As far as the Zones go, each time I connect, the new IP address gets put into
the Internet zone automatically. I have the "initial router attempt" IP as
blocked. That one is 224.0.0.2 which several people have mentioned on this
board. Finally, the main AOL IP (205.188.146.146) I place in the trusted zone.
Both zone security levels are set at medium.

Free real player is a real dog and spyware hog. If you need it block its
startup in msconfig and only start it when you need it. Don't block Windows
Explorer, let it ask and determine what is using it to access the internet.
Run AdAware and/or SpyBot to clean up any spyware accessing the internet
from your system. Also run updated virus scan......
