ms fax doesn't answer incoming calls

I've been using ms fax for several years now, it allways worked perfectly.
Suddenly it stopped asnwering to incoming calls. The Fax Monitor is also
not showing any activity while an incoming call is in progress.
I've replaced the modem, reinstalled the operating system from scratch,
but the same problem remains.
I'm using XP with SP2 installed, the modem is creative modem blaster,
listed in HCL.
As I said, it worked for years, till suddenly stopped.
There is no problem with sending faxes.

What could it be ?

Thanks!

You are the only one who could have a clue.
What exactly did you change just before "suddenly?"
Nothing happens for no reason.

You are absolutely right. I've thought about all the possibilities, but
really, I didn't
do any change to the system. I even reinstalled it from scratch, and the
same
problem remains (modem was also replaced).
Maybe you have some clues about where or what to check.

Thanks!

The most common reason I've seen for sudden seemingly inexplicable failure
of the Fax Service is running any software made by Symantec. They seem to
have a real knack for disabling it.

I know, but that doesn't get them off the hook.
Since you provided no real troubleshooting information, I have no other wild
guesses.
