Text message question

I am a Verizon subscriber with an LG 6100.

Is there any way to set up, or change, text messaging so that
when I send a message it reads to the recipient ***anything***
but my cell number e.g. 555-555-1212@vtext.com?

I called Verizon text support. They told me about going to
vtext.com and creating an alias. I did that. However, the
only way I can use it, is if someone first text messages me
with the alias in the "to" field (e.g. johnsmith@vtext.com).
At that point, I can use johnsmith@vtext.com but only in
direct response to them.

I am looking/hoping to keep my cellphone private and unseen
when I use text messaging.

Is this possible and, if so, how do I do it?

Thank you for your consideration of my request.

Whom do you want to send an uninvited text message to that you don't
want them to know your cellphone number?

I also have the LG VX6100 and checked and can't find any setting on the phone itself to set the from and reply to fields; yet when I send a message to my home computer from the cellphone, the from field is my userid@vtext.com [not phone#@vtext.com], reply to field is blank and nothing remotely similar to my phone number appears in the header or body.

It's quite possible that simply registering at vtext.com causes VZW thereafter to use the alias [UserID] in text messaging rather than the phone number. Have you tried sending a clean message from the phone since registering at vtext.com? If not, let's see what happens; if you did and it still shows your phone number, let's try and figure why it works on my system but not yours.

The short answer is no one in particular.

I am perfectly willing to set up my text messaging to say
"myfirstandname@vtext.com" or
"mynicknameandlastname@vtext.com" etc. I prefer to keep my
cell phone number unlisted and blocked from others, just like
our land line phone. If someone wishes not to accept such a
text message or phone call as a result, I respect that and
honor their wishes.

OTOH, just as I can block my cell number by using *67, I wish
there was some way to use an alias with @vtext.com.

There is no way to selectively block text messages. If you send a text
message to someone, it costs them two cents or uses up one of their
messages in the block if they bought a block of text messages.

Further, if you block your number, they can't reply; it's not a two way
communication like a phone call.

It sounds like spam to me.

They can reply to your UserID@vtext.com if what Bob wants is implemented (and I think it aready has).
