I have an epson cx4600 that you can also use to fax but when I try to do so
it tells me that something is not installed from Windows XP. Is there
something I have to install on my computer? I understood that XP came with a
build in fax. Is this true. Thank you

It's not installed by Default.
Go to the Control Panel, click on Add/Remove Programs. On the left hand
side, click on Add/Remove Windows Components.

Windows XP does come with a built-in Fax service, but this service will NOT
function with ANY make or model of multi-function printer/scanner/fax
device. The ONLY device Windows XP Fax can operate is a standard analog Fax
modem. The only way to control a MFP device with a WIndows XP computer
REQUIRES control software manufactured by the maker of the Multi-Function
Printer.
