I think I already know what the answer is going to be, but does any one know of a heatsink that is taller or just all around better than a volcano 7 with no fan? I think I will put a 120x120x38mm (108cu/min) fan on the side cover of my case that blows right over the cpu and mobo. It will be about 3-4" from the mobo. So could I just cool my cpu like that or would it be better just to go with a regular heasink and fan?

Thanks

I used to do both, a delta on the CPU and a pair of 120x120x38 @ 131CFM in the side of the case over my video card/CPU/chipset.

Zalman has some wild designs if you do not want to use a fan on your heat sink.

Fugger,

Did you cut a hole in the side of your case for the 38mm depth and attach them to the side pannel?

The 120mm is inside the case, I had plenty of clearance in the case for 38mm deep fan.

I have <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduct.asp?submit=manufactory&catalog=127&manufactory=1564&DEPA=1" target="_new">Y S Tech</A> fans. cheap and effective.

Newegg.com has lots of other fans too, great prices.

How did you mount them then? Bracket for both like that Zalman?

The fans are screwed into the case, not the on the heat sink.

If you don't want to use a fan, I would recommend getting the flower heatsink from Zalman. First off it looks really cool but it's suppose to be very good at dissipating heat.
