Test Print Working but no other printing..

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax (More info?)

I am using XP home and a HP Deskjet 5550 - all was working ok then
documents failed to print - they appear in the print queue as
"printing" and then delete but nothing is printed. I cannot also open
"Printing Preferences" for this printer it just flashes open for a
split second.

I have reinstalled the printer umpteen times on both LPT1 and USB and
tried all the various drivers available. The test print page works each
time I reinstall the printer but nothing after.

No problem with the printer or installation disk and drivers - all
works fine on another pc.

Any ideas out there as I have been going bonkers on this for 20 hours
?
