I am building a 1.2 athlon with 256 mb PC 133 and a 30 GiG IBM HD, I would like to install both win 98se and win 2000 on the same hard drive and have the option on startup which OS to boot to. How would I go about doing this? Do I need to set up two 15 gig partitions?

Thanks for you help.

Very easy to do if you know what you are doing. Partition the drive with a partition program like Partition Magic; and make sure you install Windows 98SE FIRST (very important since pretty much all the win9x kernals like to be first) if it isn't on there already. Then install Win2k on the 2nd partition, and win2k will automatically set up the bootloader which will let you choose the option of which OS at start-up.

I was thinking that it would work about like that, but I wanted to ask before I tried and formatted and tried and formatted, etc. However, if I just want the partition to hold Win 2000 and stuff associated with it will a 2 gig partition be large enough or should I go with like a 5 or 10. On a 30 Gig HDD. Thanks

I would go with a 5-10 at least with win2k, but it depends on witch your going to use more win2k or win98, i have a dual boot set up and i use win98 for 2 things, my scanner has issues with win2k, and one other program that i use once in a blue moon

Another suggestion is to have 3 partitions - one for Win98SE, one for Win2K, and one for just data.

I wish I could survive on three. I have 8. Two for win98, three for win2k, and three for Mandrake.

Note to self: don't hit the send button more than once when you're on dialup.....
Edited by ejsmith2 on 04/17/01 11:30 PM.
