Thinking of putting a few of the Antec teperature controled fans in my system, the ones that ajust speed according to the temp. Have any of you used them? and could I put one of these on my CPU heatsink (if I used a fan grill to mount it)? Just trying to cut down on the noise from my case, It cools quite well right now, just loudly.

I've never had good luck with Antec products, finding all I've owned to be of average or below quality.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

I've got one of their temp controlled fans. I haven't installed it yet, but I played around with it with a 12V battery and a heat gun. With the built in temp sensor, the problem with them is that they don't run at max. speed until the air temp going through the fan is above 50C (per their own documentation). This makes them useful only as an exhaust fan for somthing that runs quite hot.

As delivered, they really would NOT work as a replacement HSF fan. They would only reach max. speed when your case air temp reached 50C. By then you have probably cooked the CPU.

I plan to play around with the 92mm fan I have to see if I can change the temp vs. speed calibration with a resistor in parallel with the sensor (thermistor??). It actually looks and feels like a pretty nice fan, and it's quieter than my 92mm Panaflows at similar CFM's so it might have potential.

What they need to do is give you the thermistor on a pigtail so you can position it wherever you want (like on the heatsink).

Here's the temp vs. CFM curve for the Antec 92mm:

TempC -CFM ---RPM
20 ----35 ----1410
25 ----36 ----1460
30 ---41.5 ---1670
35 ---42.5 ---1980
40 ----45 ----2100
45 ----48 ----2250
50 ----49 ----2280

my $.10

The pigtail sounds like a good idea, think it is possible to wire it up like that? at least without compromising the purpose?

Without disassembling it, there isn't much wire length to connect a pigtail between the sensor and where it disappears into the fan housing. I'm worried I'd fry the sensor if I tried to solder anything to it, but if I can get it apart, I might give it a go.

It will be tough enough to T in a resistor in parallel without cutting the wires, but I'm definitely going to try at least that when I get some time. First I've got to confirm that lowering the resistance will raise the speed!

Hmm, think I'll give them a go for the case, and just put a POT on my fan for my cpu. These delta fans are loud...
