if you over clock your xp from 1700 to 2000 and say you own an xp 2000 when asked? just a question of eticate.

im not worried about wether or not im a bad person or anything like that, just a "philosophical" question about whether or not it really is a 2000.

my viewpoint is that if you can run your 1700+ at 2000+ speeds at 1.75V & 133FSB then you can claim to have a 2000+... overwise its an overclocked 1700+.

hiya poobaa!

if you consider the binning business these AMD and Intel guys do, you might know that the XP1700+ you have bought is really a XP2000+ or even a XP2100+!

I think if you unlock it and just raise the multiplier to run it faster, go ahead a call it a 2000+, or if you donr unlock the multiplier and increase the FSB to 166 and run it at XP2100+, you would want to call it as a XP2100++!

An additional plus sign because its superior FSB will get you better performance than the stock spec of XP2100+ @133 MHz FSB!

Not being too concerned with the ethics of what I call my chip, I just say I have an XP1500+ overclocked to a 2000+. Then I go on to my braggin privledges by reciting my multiplier and FSB. Of course, I always seem to run into someone who thinks they have out done me by saying they have a higher FSB when I know they used a lower multiplier.

Heck, I just found that after lowering my multiplier to 11.5, I was able to up my FSB to 145MHz. This gives me an overclock of 1665MHz. I'm thinking about going to 11X and try 150FSB just to see if I'm still stable. It took me sometime to figure out that a higher FSB is better than a higher CPU speed (like 1704MHz 12*142). Mom always told me I had a thick skull. I guess if the info was important enough to get in my head, I'd have a better chance of keeping it there. hehe

Anyways, if someone asks you what processor are you running, just tell 'em that you have an XP1700+ running as fast or faster than an XP2000+. If they don't know about overclocking, then they will ask you how did you do that. Then you get to show off your knowledge. Who knows, maybe they'll learn something.

My thoughts is that if it really was a 2000+ then you would be asking if you could call it a 2300+ and so forth... so my answer would defently be NO!.. you have a OC cpu thats all... :O)

Just a fellow OC'er...

Ok, let it look from another point of view:

- you have a CD-ROM working at x24. Because your knowledge you modify some circuits. Now it's running at x36, no problems at all. (hey, probably this is impossible, just it's an exemple, ok?)

Now you have a x24CD running at x36; or a 24CD modified that works as a x36CD. But in fact, inherently, it will always be a x24CD, no matter how many things you do.

Thing about other exemples. The result is always a "basic element" and "powered", not a truly new one. As far as you want can say to others you have a 2000+ just top avoid the explanation to everyone, but that's another aspect.

In that context, what if you Underclock your XP 2000 to an XP 1500? Would you tell people you have a 1500? I would have to say you got what the label said, and that's that. Come on, you know the ladies love it when you brag about your OC'ed CPU!!!
