The card is a Gainward Ti4200 64 MB Retail (ultra 650 something) non Golden Sample.
RAM is EliteMT EM658160TS-3.5.

Default clocks are 250/513. So far everything is working fine.

Im just thinking that since the RAM is rated at 3.5 ns it should go up to 1/3.5=285 MHz*2=570 MHz DDR. However once it hits more than 540 MHz I start getting artifacts, and I dont feel like pressing it too hard since it´s brand new and costs a bit of $:)

Seeing reviews of the 128 MB Gainward Ti4200 w/ 4 ns RAM OC to 540 leads me to think that my card should go a bit higher. 27 MHz DDR/13.5 MHz SDR actually seems a little weak.

So basically what I´m asking is if there is something that I´ve missed?

Could it be that it needs more voltage?

Does a vid-card need to be "burned in" for a while before it can overclock to its full potential?

Have I mis-interpreted the markings on the memory-chips?

Athlon C 1200
Gainward Ti4200 64 MB
WinXP
27.50 detonators
OC-tool: Gainwards ExpertTool
4.38 4-in-1´s

Thx for helping me out!

PS. I used "ArtifactTester2" to test for artifacts

You could try using driver v28.32. Also you could overclock with RivaTuner or NVMax or something like that instead of the Gainward. Also is your case well ventilated? That could effect the o/cing. If that doesn't solve it, you could always get some RAMsinks. They should help a bit. Therotically they can go to 570MHz, but it doesn't always happen, maybe just an unlucky card..

My firewall tastes like burning.

I have a 128MB GF4 Ti4200 Ultra 650/XP VIVO GS, I can hit 330/560.

Who ever made up the phrase, "If it aint broke why fix it" just didn't get it...

*shrugs* the 128MB version uses different NS memory, maybe less so. You might have gotten lucky, and a 2.8/3.3 NS memory chip slipped through, giving you better results.

if you can find a copy of them, go for the 28.31 drivers, they worked better for overclocking than the "new" drivers

Hi. I have the Gainward Ultra 650/XP Golden Sample (Ti4200 128MB). I run at standard settings usually (250/446MHz), but have OC'ed just for fun to 295/580. You could try overclocking the core clock above 250MHz in addition to overclocking the memory. Can you get another fan into the case blowing directly on or towards the GF4 ? Also, my card does slightly better using nVidia 28.32 drivers than with newer 29.42 drivers. Go figure...... Anyhow, it's fun to play with these settings but, ultimately, stability is the real deal......
