I have a Dell Inspiron 3800 laptop. It appears that the fan is dead. The fan should be spinning as soon as I boot it up shouldn't it? I can physically see the fan not moving. If it is dead, is it tough to replace and does it blow the air up or suck it in?

Thanks.

your best bet is to call dell and see about a repair, but you may want to check on how the fan is supposed to work. on my 233 laptop the fan doesnt always spin, it starts to spin when i work it hard.

how do you shoot the devil in the back? what happens if you miss? -verbal

most laptops only run the fan when the laptop REALLY needs it. because the fan will add to the battery drain.
try using it hard...like play the most intense game it can play, WHILE IT IS PLUGGED IN OF COURSE (unless you want to cycle the battery, and drain it completely...)
after playing the game for a while, the fan should turn on. if you are worried, give dell a call. they should be able to help you determine if the fan is dead or not.
